39… it doesn’t seem that old until I have to scroll through a dialogue box to find my birth year on the next web form application. I like what Mark Twain said about aging. “Age is like mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
Truthfully, I don’t mind but there is a creeping sense of vulnerability that comes with the passage of time. Here I’m not yet even forty. I can almost hear my dad say “Forty’s nothing. Wait till 60 and then we’ll talk.” It seems fitting that such a short blog about age is in quotations. There just aren’t many people historically who were quoted pre forty, aside from Robert E. Lee, and the like.
Donald Justice in Men at Forty said that they “…learn to close softly the doors to rooms they will not be coming back to.” I’ll take it. One year out to the big 4-0 and I will take with gratitude every year God has given me!
