“Puppy, go poop!”

I’m writing a children’s book.  It’s about a boy named Eli and his dog Jackson.  Here’s what I have so far.

———
It didn’t rain much in the summer where Eli lived but a very big and scary thunderstorm kept Eli and his 5 month old puppy Jackson inside.  Eli and Jackson were playing in the TV room when Jackson pooped right in the middle of the floor!  Eli yelled “Puppy, NO!”  Eli’s mom came in and cleaned it up while he was rushing Jackson off to the bathroom.

Jackson had never sat on top of a toilet before when Eli plopped him down and said “Puppy, go poop!”  Jackson looked confused until Eli’s mom came in and got him off the toilet and told Eli that puppy’s don’t poop in the toilet.  She said “He goes in the yard, but he can’t right now because it’s not safe to go outside.  Just be patient.  One thing at a time.”

A couple hours later the thunderstorm was getting louder.  Eli and Jackson were playing trains in his bedroom when Jackson went and pooped right in the middle of the floor!  Eli yelled “Puppy, NO!”, and ran into his baby sister’s room and grabbed a diaper.  He ran back into his room and tried to put it on Jackson and yelled, “Puppy, go poop!”

Just than Eli’s mom came into see what was going on and took Jackson out of the diaper.  She said “He goes in the yard, but he can’t right now because it’s not safe to go outside.  Just be patient.  One thing at a time.”

A few minutes after this happened Eli was on the potty because he had to go poop.  He was five years old and hadn’t learned how to wipe himself after going poop.  Eli screamed “Mom! I’m done!”  Eli’s mom came to the door and said “Remember we said that you were going to learn to wipe when you turned five?  I’ll come in when you’re done.”

Eli didn’t want to do that because he was scared to wipe.  He slammed the door, banged on the wall, turned the lights on and off again and screamed “Please help me wipe!”  Eli’s mom said “Young man, learning to wipe yourself is something all little boys have to learn how to do just like Jackson has to learn how to poop outside.  Now wipe and I’ll come in when you’re done and you can have a popsicle after you wash your hands.”

A little later the sun came out and the thunderstorm was all gone.  Jackson was still afraid of going outside so Eli had to be nice and let him know it was safe to go outside.  Eli said in a sweet voice, “Puppy, go poop?”  Jackson sniffed the air by the open back door and tiptoed out to the yard and pooped right in the middle of the yard.  Eli gave him a treat and patted him on the head.

Eli’s mom let out a sigh because she was so proud of Eli and for Jackson too only to look out and see Jackson AND Eli peeing in the corner of the yard by her garden!  She started to run out to the back yard and stop them when Eli’s dad stopped her and said “Just be patient.  One thing at a time.”
