Trick-or-Entreaty

Yesterday was a spiritually supercharged day for me. I had been praying for a crucial conversation needing to be had for a couple of weeks and it went very well. Because of all the prep that went into it, I believe I experienced a deeper communion with God as a result. I had two other big requests for God yesterday in prayer.

Money for car repairs

Thanks to the State of Missouri I have 6 things on my car that will be getting attention in order to pass inspection. I knew there were some things that my car was eventually going to need but had no idea how bad it had gotten. The parts alone will be around $500 and unfortunately I don’t have that stashed in a mattress somewhere.

Beka and I prayed that God would supply our need and I’m glad we didn’t doubt Him because my dad called yesterday morning…

“Why did you send me a money order for $500?”

“I didn’t.”

“Yeah.. the mail lost it because it’s marked February of this year.”

“Oh yeah, that’s from the $500 I owed you from last November.”

“You already paid me back for that.”

“No, I don’t think I did.”

“Yes, I’m certain you did. I’m sending this back to you.”

Prayers for my children’s safety during Trick-or-Treat last night

Last night, we took our kids out trick-or-treating in the neighborhood that our friends live in. It’s a safe place to go but there’s one main road that you have to cross where a parent needs to play crossing guard in order to get the minions from one side to the other safely. I was the crossing guard over one of the busy roads when a white Toyota Camry came screaming through and about hit me.

I was angry and really scared for the kids for the rest of the night. In that moment I prayed for my children’s safety and for drivers to be on the lookout for families.

My 14-year-old son was in our neighborhood trick-or-treating with his friends. I have a friend from church, who’s in-laws live in my neighborhood, who was trick-or-treating near my street. He sent me this message about 15 minutes after I prayed.

I know my prayer was answered but I also believe that my son’s guardian angels were getting time-and-a-half last night. God sent that car that almost hit me to gather my thoughts to Himself knowing that my heart would sync with His in that moment when He planned to prosper my son in his safety.

Prayer changes things indeed, but prayer really is an ongoing conversation with the Ancient of Days: a sort of TRICK-or-enTREATy with God Almighty. We go to Him for treats and treasures when what He really desires is that we ask Him for nothing but Himself.

When you go to Him in prayer today, before you ask for provisions, hug the feet of Jesus and tell Him that He is the treasure you’re after.
