“Let me not be put to shame, Lord, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead. Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.” Psalms 31:17-18, NIV
Our “wicked” today are likely not the same as the ones David experienced. He had treacherous people seeking to kill him on the daily, where the wicked enemies in our lives look a lot different.
One of our greatest enemies is the voice inside that demands we protect ourselves at all costs.
“Did you see how they treated you!?”
“You deserve it! So take it!”
“No one really loves you because of what you did and really, if we’re being honest, for who you aren’t.”
This other voice is in direct opposition to God. This voice works for the other side and only seeks to serve self at the expense of loving others. In the end, this voice will have taken, murdered, hoarded, and slandered everyone and everything, at YOUR expense!
Strike this voice with the arrow of God’s truth. Fight it with all you have in Christ. Be diligent against it for God’s glory, the good of others, and for the deep abiding joy of Jesus in your very heart.
