“Keep Alive” – Thoughts on the Faith of Noah

“You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to KEEP them ALIVE with you” … Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah” (Genesis 6:19, 7:8-9).

God told Noah to “bring” with him every kind of animal. Where most of us would have staggered at such a request, Noah was an “heir of righteousness” according to faith.

“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith (Hebrews 11:7).

His faith in God meant he was willing to chase down, and “keep alive” all that he gathered, but also knew with heavenly certainty that somehow God would provide.

God brought all of the animals into the Ark for Noah but God hadn’t told him how that was going to play out. God’s demand for righteousness hasn’t wavered since then but the labor in our faith is none other than fragrant obedience to what God has done for us in Jesus. He will “keep alive” all He has entrusted to us if we walk by faith in His name.

“I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day” (2 Timothy 2:12).
